Is facial symmetry good or bad?
Try to observe your face in the mirror, being sure that you have collected your hair well in order to better see the lines of the face.
Divide your face vertically into two sections by a line A that cuts the center of the nose and lips in half, ideally passing between the two incisors. The pupils of the eyes should also be vertically aligned with the corners of the mouth (line B). In general, the face should be divided horizontally into equal thirds (line C): hairline, eyebrows, base of the nose and tip of the chin.
Finally, the distance from the base of the nose to the line that crosses the point where the lips meet when they close (line D) must be one third of the lowest portion of the face.
Do you find any measure that is not proportionate?
Although the ancient Greeks believed that the human face must be 5 times larger than the size of an eye (line E), we can say without doubt that asymmetry is something absolutely normal and desirable. Many studies indicate that, within limits, the most interesting faces are deranged.
So why is it important to know the proportions of your face?
Knowing the measurements and positions of our features helps us make a decision about whether we want to change our appearance. Changes in our smile can really change the overall appearance of the face and therefore need to be carefully considered.
